Passive smoking: the risk that we neglect.

At the congress of European Society of Cardiologists, held in Vienna, were presented to second-hand smoke from a group of Greek scientists from the University of Athens, led by Dr. Demostenesa Panagiotakosa. These data can be summarized as follows: the impact of even occasional "party" to tobacco smoke is a serious threat to human health.
After studying history and interviewing 1900 people about the same age group, of whom 847 suffered from cardiovascular diseases, the scientists found that even 30 minutes of passive smoking on the day ( two or three cigarettes a friend, relative or co-workers ) is sufficient to increase the likelihood of developing heart disease by 15 percent a year. In the event that a second-hand smoke continues for more than 30 years, the risk almost doubled. Finally, if a person already suffering from hypertension or coronary heart disease, the risk of complications and exacerbations - hypertonic crisis, heart attacks and strokes - rises almost 60 percent. In terms of the population of Greece, this means that second-hand smoke every day, killing three people.
Recall that the fight against passive smoking in many countries is considered one of the priorities of national health.
